Are these bats??

If not, what else could they be? They are perched in the corner of my outdoor covered porch. Whatever they are, I'm hoping they don't eat my albino geckos!
Are these sleeping bats or what?

Not a bat I've ever seen. These are birds or ducks of some kind. Long tail feathers makes me think of a wild turkey. Hope an animal expert sees your post. I'm curious.

Those look more like feet than wings to me. Although the one on the left does look like a tail in the middle? Be sure and post once you find out!

I don't know what they are, but is there a nest or something up there? I think I would be for removing these things. An exterminator can come and get them before they chew their way into your attic!(?)!. That tail on the left looks a little like a beaver...but what would a beaver be doing up on your porch?

You're lucky to get a picture. Usually a little noise will scare most animals away for a time. I got my profile picture threw my front window. After he heard me he ducted under the porch and looked up at me with too buck teeth. He just loved my tulips.

What time of day was this photo taken? Looking at the larger photo, I see feathers so it is definitely birds of some sort. Are they still there?

@Holly R look like ferrets to me, does any of your neighbors have any missing lol? xx
  • Batty cats perhaps. Hit them with a hose. That is not a bat or bird. Bats that you would see are no larger then a small baseball if they even get that big, unless your living In the Amazon. Could it be a kids stuffed toy that got thrown up there?

My friends on Facebook have all voted that they are either Carolina Wrens or fledgling birds of some kind. Several other people say they have had them on their porch too and one distant neighbor just posted a very similar photo from her porch in May! So I think our answer is Carolina Wrens if we can get a bird expert to confirm...

Oh and to answer others' questions - this was taken at around 11:15 pm and no they were gone this morning when we woke up. So definitely not a stuffed animal. (Plus they were breathing last night!) :-)

@Holly, I googled the name of the bird your friends said it was and there were all sorts of pictures very similar to yours, as was the one I linked.

So I've decided that these are indeed Carolina Wrens, and yes, at least one of them has come back for both of the two nights I've checked since, but are always gone in the morning! Thanks everyone! Looks like I'll be an overnight host for a while! (In addition to the ~6-12 albino geckos that also hang out on my porch at night!) :-)
