Debra Taylor Purvis -DesignHouse Inc - House Plans on Aug 08, 2014Have you tried one of those pumice stones for cleaning? You should be able to find one in the toilet cleaning area of Walmart. They really work very well. :-)Helpful Reply

Carole on Aug 09, 2014Bicarb of soda moistened so that it sticks to the stain. Cake it on and leave for several hours. You might need to use a rubber glove and your hands to get it to stick, but I have seen on one of those shows where they visit a filthy house and clean it up that this works. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Nov 25, 2014The Works has acid in it. I buy the full strength. If it is a double pack it isn't full strength.Helpful Reply

Leanne on Nov 25, 2014I keep seeing sandpaper and pumice stone to clean the rings. Wouldn't that remove the finish leaving a porous environment for even more nasty crud to collect?Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Nov 25, 2014This is a combination of lime, rust and mold and other stuff. Using a strong acid will remove it. Someone asked if the pumice stone would damage the toilet. All this has already caused some etching and hard water and rust and mold collects there so using a pumice stone to knock it off won't hurt it any. It already some etching and using the stone just knocks it off. This doesn't happen because your dirty it happens because it is a moist environment. If the works or stone doesn't work empty out the bowl of water and use muriatic acid full strength and rinse, keep the windows open and mask on and eye protection., can on. This is die hard cleaning. I do it everyday.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Dec 19, 2014I clean 3 rental units a day, and this is on a whole lot of them. And I have seen it happen in a week of not cleaning your toilet. It is moisture that creates this. In bathrooms that have this when all else fails, I use the Works and a copper brush and brush the rim. I did one today and thought if you. The works and copper brush took it off. They are small copper brushes 3 in a set and I get them from automotive stores. Even Walmart carries them in the paint department.Helpful Reply

Louise on Jan 05, 2015I cleaned an old toilet just like this yesterday. This is what I did. Mixed this cleaner for everyday use. Then sprayed the ring every time I went in the bathroom (3), then sprayed Oxyclean on it, went to bed. When I got up in the am, the ring was gone. Today, the old tub! Cleaner 2oz. Dawn Dishwashing liquid 4oz. Lemon Juice 8oz. White Vinegar 10oz. Water Nowmake your house sparkle! *Pleasetest it first before using on delicate surfaces. This is powerfulstuff! If your shower has a bad build-up of soap scum and crud it maytake a time or two to get that shine.Helpful Reply
