Claw foot tub

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 08, 2014The tub was most likely manufactured during the 20's or 30's The first thing to check is if the toilet is original in the bath. If so a date will be found inside the tank. That will give you a better idea of age. 10's of thousands of these tubs were produced. If that has been changed and the house is old, Check in basement also. Many had toilets in that area as well that might have age. In any case, I am sure the tub is original to the house. Knowing that you should be able to determine the age of this fixture. These tubs are Heavy as you know. They were often put in during the construction of the house. It is doubtful if it was installed at a later date.Helpful Reply

Gmcgreer on Aug 08, 2014Thanks, but the tub was not original to the house, it had an outhouse. The tub served as the water trough for the cows in the adjacent field!Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 09, 2014Is there any other markings? Perhaps up by the drain hole? Can you take a few photos of the tub. The top around the edges are important as well. If there is no drain, measure the drain opening. If its indeed from the 20's or so, you will find it difficult to obtain the correct drain for the tub, as many years ago they used a different size. Unless you live in an area where there are tons of old homes that have these tubs, your not going to find anything that fits the tub at the plumbing supply house unless you lucky. A light sanding on the top of the casting will help to read the casting numbers and ID information. The paint prevents a complete view of the information.Helpful Reply

Gmcgreer on Aug 09, 2014Not sure of the width, but it's 5 and 1/2 feet long and husband believes 20 in deep. And we just had it sand blasted and primed so no sanding anything else :)Helpful Reply
