Best plants for a counter top garden?

I just moved in to an apartment with no outdoor space! I have always wanted to start a small herb garden because I love to cook! I am a gardening novice so I need plants with simple plant care. What should I start with? Any tips/advice would be amazing! Thanks in advance.

herbs will grow as long as you have good light.

You really do have to have good light to grow most herbs. If you don't, try ones with soft leaves like parsley, cilantro and chives.

Thanks for the insight! I guess my dream herb garden will have to wait until I get a sunnier kitchen but I will be starting a small starter garden with some of the plants y'all suggested, I'll keep you posted.
