When I noticed the business next door toss this bookshelf out for the trash, I knew there was still some life left in it so I decided to take it home.
The bookshelf as I found it was dirty, falling apart, and not constructed well at all. It wasn't fancy, but I wanted to see what I could do with it.
I had a lot of materials already on hand, so this project wasn't going to cost me anything but time. I took it completely apart and put it back together using pocket holes and painted it black. But it was still just another black bookshelf.
I found a pallet and took it apart using a reciprocating saw to cut the nails. This is much easier than trying to pry the boards off. Be sure to wear safety glasses and take all necessary precautions.
I nailed the board to the back of the bookshelf using finishing nails and a hammer. I would use a nail gun if you have one available to you.
The bookshelf was then sanded and distressed around the edges and sealed with polyurethane.
I would've loved to have the boards extend the length of the bookshelf but that was not the case, so I simply added two boards to the bottom cut to length.
Now we just have to find a spot for it and stuff to put on it!
