Garden Decor

Well, I just about have everything I need for my french door green house. The French doors are at my friends house the 2 paneled doors are waiting across the street. I had two loads of cedar donated to my cause along with an old garden gate frame. I was given 3 pallets and now I am just waiting for a few sunny days in a row to get out there and build it. Oh yea, I had two cast iron sinks given to me too. They are a little smaller then what I wanted, But Hey ! ! ! can't look those gift horses in the mouth

Mine will probably look like this but I prefer the other one. Will have to wait and see how good I am at construction. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. Heh

that sounds right to me. It's only going to take a few minutes for each hole...under an hour...$20 yes.

Do be cautious hiring yougins. I let my high school age son and two friends use a rented auger to dig fence holes. They needed constant supervision...so they wouldn't get all silly and try to do stupid stuff like spin around on it.

Yes, I have heard how powerful the augers are that was why I was waiting till the neighbors landlord was going to redo the fence but I think that by the end of August isn't going to happen either???? What to do??

I didn't mean for the kids to use the augers ;)

No, I know. Can't find any kids that need some spending cash so guess I am going to have to hire some men to do it. Dang it.

too bad you don't have something like we have in our town, or maybe you do. Down at what we call Park Circle there are always a bunch of men in the mornings looking for work and the contractors and landscapers stop by and pick and choose who they'll need for the day.

Can someone please help me to get specific directions on how to assemble this room made of doors for my garden. I would love to have hubby assemble this for my private solitude room for reading my Bible and other Books. I know it appears to be just doors put together, but I would like the directions. Went to the HomeTalk. site and it would not allow me to sign into it. Please if anyone has the directions please share. Thanks in Advance.

Beverly, not sure if I can find directions as I just found the picture and thought it looked like a good Idea. Maybe KMS can help you out with the basics for the construction of this. He is a very talented carpenter here at Hometalk.

Heard an old saying once "Hire one kid, you get a kid, hire two and you get 1/2 a kid and hire three and get no kid at all"

Heheh, like your comment Patricia, I can relate. Especially around here. We have a lot of skaters and a skate park a block away. Nothing against skaters but they would rather be skating then working.

If you do, I would be sure to find a way to secure it so that the wind won't tip it over. That is my problem at the moment as I can't find anyone to dig me four post holes for the 4x4's that I will be sinking in each corner to stabilize it.

Jan, what about anchors? If you go to Lowe's or Home Depot, you'll find they sell several types of anchors, some of which can be screwed into the ground. Chat with them and see if those might work.

Jan, I love this seren little sitting area. However I don't have neighbors w/ what they call clutter, but do have a friend that makes trips 2-3 times a yr, for yard art back to the Midwest.. I live in Roseburg OR., I believe you are up near Portland, maybe? I know Sellwood use to have a warehouse w/ everything from old homes & etc. Do you know of anywhere else I might look for wonderful doors w/those cute lil' windows, & are narrow? I would love to see your yard. I bet it is neat.

There is a place in Philomath that has old architectural vintage building items. I forget what street it is on but it is a side street just off of the main street. Philomath isn't that big so if you are ever in that area someone would know. I wish I could say that the cute little sitting area is mine but it is just an idea to make one. I have collected all I need except the labor to dig four post holes for the four by fours. Others say that anchors won't hold with the winds we get here.

This to Jan, w/ what I saw as the 1st posting, went to restoraion near us, the lady said as I discribed what I needed, she said I just sold some to lady yeterday, he said the lady saw it on the comp. Dang day late dollar short, but she is suppose to give me a call when or if doors would happen to come in. I can imagine being on the coast. We have had a lot of winds, & had wondered about the anhoring it stable . We have had much more than ussual. Last yr, it was scarey. We saw shingles ...»
flying, & our 4 neighbors each had a section of their fence blown down. Limbs falling around @other homes. I had never had a wind scare me so. Fortunatley we had just replaced windows around the whole house. But we have 2 trees we planted in '69, / & w/ our blk mud, the roots are above ground in some areas. I prayed they wouldn't blow over, it would have wipped out both ends of our house. Maybe our garage may be the safest place, sorry to say, it's full, so maybe if the roof were to come down all the stuff would protect us. I already have a fairly lrg. Garden House w/ 2 lofts, in our back yd & hubby has a lrg.Garden area on the other side of our back yard, flower beds here & there w/ pathes leading to them., The cute lil get away one you posted would be fun about anywhere, I like seating areas for guests to go to & sit to enjoy how ever long to view different areas of the back yd.Some day we'll get it done. I just keep coming up w/ project for the Honey do list. Ea. yr seemsto getting slower & slow sice we both retired.. Oh well, LOL Thanks~~

i love this look and it is doable, but...being exposed to constant weather would make this labor intensive preventing rot...no?

Ooh, I like that. Such a happy, relaxing little puttering spot.

Could definitely appreciate one of these in my yard.

Jan. I'm the lucky recipient of an original cast iron sink with side drainage attached. I'm trying to get my husband to let me incorporate it into our kitchen redo, it would be perfect. But if not I.m mounting it to our old chicken .coop for a potting sink.. I'm. also going to put aluminum galvanized siding on then mount doors painted different shades of red.. Then the sink. Your design gave me a new idea for the sides. Good luck with your project and please post pics.
