Help, new travertine stone kitchen backsplash doesn't match granite
-
Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 18, 2014You have a few choices here. If you have a few tiles left, try using a stain on the tile. Travertine is porous and will take in the stain. This may change it enough to make it work for you. If it does and you move ahead with the stain and it ends up looking worse, then you have not lost much on this as the stone would be coming off anyway. Another option is if the backsplash is really new, the chance of the thinset sticking to the tile may be slim enough to remove it without breaking to many tiles. Then replace the backsplash with something you like. The removed travertine can be used some place else perhaps. Lastly simply paint it. Again if It does not work out, you would be removing it anyway. No real loss other then a can of paint, stain and some time.Helpful Reply

Diane Arnold on Aug 19, 2014I agree, stain it then after it dries put a sealer on it. It will be fine. If you have any scraps left try the stain on that first. Some good color stores will actually let you try different colors on your sample, so you find just the right stain.Helpful Reply
