Linda Allen on Aug 18, 2014I would put the faux stone on the bar and accent the along the long wall behind the sofa in above picture. Accent the entire wall. Or vice versa.Helpful Reply

Marie on Aug 18, 2014Thank you for the suggestions but this doesn't answer my question because my living room isn't exactly like the one above I just post it to show a living room dining room combo... mine is more like this but without a fireplace and the sofa would be facing the opposite wall.Helpful Reply

Ric214567 on Aug 19, 2014I don't think I would put faux rock at all, If anything I would pick a color that I want to accent with and then paint one wall a shade or two darker then the other in the same color, that way it would all flow, you can always add more color with accent pillows, lamps, blankets, or any thing else you have, Just a thought,!!!Helpful Reply

DitchJumpr on Aug 19, 2014You remind me of me when I first started quilting MANY years ago. I wanted someone to tell me if I should use colored thread or white. The answer I was repeatedly given was "choose what YOU like best." It wasn't the answer I wanted, and it took me years to realize that it was the correct answer. You, too, should make choices in your room that best represent you. Each of us has a style, an opinion...differences are what make us who we are. You choose, Marie, and whatever you decide, it will be the right choice.Helpful Reply

Debra Grieve on Nov 04, 2014Marie, there is no right or wrong answer here. You must live with this, not us. I would say to make 2 accent walls, because there will be 2 "separate" living areas. When you walk in the room, which wall do you see first? Maybe that should be your accent for your sitting/tv area. Then you can also make an accent wall near your dining area also. I hope this helps you to decide. It is a matter of you choosing which walls you want to accent. The faux stone sounds soothing behind the tv! Then you could be a bit more daring in the eating area!! You can do this! Just don't be afraid of mistakes, they happen sometimes, and they can be fixed later. Have fun!Helpful Reply

Lori on Dec 21, 2014Yes we all have our own opinions, some you just laugh at, some sound safe, some sound interesting but.... But maybe one person will suggest something that is just exactly what you wanted, that is the whole point of asking us Hometalk people, right? You will do exactly what you end up wanting to do and that's the right thing. One thing I learned years ago was, when you walk in a clothing store and someone offers to help you, let them help you. Sometimes they come up with something you would have just skip past, that looks wonderful on you. Same with opinions.Helpful Reply

Lisa O. on Dec 22, 2014I think it is perfectly fine to do more than one focal point in this case, as you are using one living space for more than one purpose. (Dinning and tv viewing) I would suggest doing a focal point right near the dinning table rather than covering the entire wall with a different paint color. If you like the idea of wall papering, what I have done in the past is wallpapering a portion of the wall , maybe 4 strips width, floor to ceiling, (proportion it to your space) I then Wallpaper narrow trim pieces to frame in the wallpapered area. It gives it a nice finished look. You could then place a large mirror on the wallpapered area. You can also tie in your window covering to blend in with the wallpaper. I can post some pics if you would like, just have to get going to work right now.Helpful Reply
