Anthropologie Inspired Desk Organizer

Are you like me and love the look of Anthropologie but don't love their prices? Insane I tell you! Absolutely insane!
Just like the Codify Pencil Holder that retails for $48 and is just 5 inches tall. My version is a little taller and cost about $4 and took maybe 10 minutes to make.
Here’s how I made it -
Measure out how long you want your organizer to be based on the containers you have available. I used a coffee can, two vases and two paper mache boxes from Michael’s. I just wanted about an inch on each side of my containers because of the size of my desk. I bought a piece of craft wood at Michael’s for $2. I found the vases at a thrift store for 25 cents each.

I made a second one of these for a friend and painted it bright blue for her craft room and found that cans from sliced black olives work great in the place of the paper mache boxes which I had to purchase.
After you cut your base, sand the edges to get it smooth and so the paint will adhere better.
I just used E6000 glue to adhere the cans and vases to the board. Seriously if you haven’t ever used E6000 it is good for pretty much everything. You should get a tube to keep on hand.
Here it is all glued and waiting to be painted. Once you figure out what containers you are going to use this takes no time at all. Now you are ready to make it pretty!
First coat of gold spray paint. I had a gold spray paint addiction in the new craft room which I will be showing you soon!

The vases were pretty tall so it was difficult to get the paint all the way down in them. I will tell you that the gold metallic paint seemed to work better for this than the regular spray paint. I don’t know if it is the metallic nature of the paint or the fact that the metallic was Krylon and the blue paint was Valspar that I had on hand.
And here it is all finished up and on my desk. Isn’t it cute? I love it and it is working out really well on my desk. I have thought about trying one with all square containers – what do you think?

Before you rule out any décor piece because it is too expensive stop and think a minute about how easy it would be to make. You can do it … I know you can!
