My bedroom ceiling (photo as promised)

This did not photograph as well as I would have liked, but here it is. The details don't all show up but it is nice to lay and look at. This was painted in several sections and hot glued to my ceiling. The only supplies used were: styro-board, egg shell flat latex wall paint, black high gloss enamel paint, a roller, 1 sponge brush, and 2 precision brushes. Total time from start to glued up: 2hrs, 15 min., total size; 11x14, total cost; less than $50.... :)

NOT to be a fly in your ointment BUT, I have to wonder if adding electrical cords & lights to the back of the foam board might add just enough weight to make it too heavy for the hot glue to hold it up? The whole purpose of foamcore was that it was very light and easily attached to surfaces but also easily removeable! However, would attaching rope lights around the perimeter of the room be a feasible option? The little clips tack into the wall easily and don't leave a huge crater when ...»
removed. Just another thought for you to mull over . . . . !!! LOL

very good point Susan S. My son and I were discussing different light styles and we are checking into something called "crackle lights"..we had never heard of them and now are trying to find them via the internet Someone at work told my son he had seen them used for special effects & described them as being almost like wrinkled Suran Wrap and static electricity moves through it ...has anyone here ever heard of it?

Now that really sounds intriguing!! Nope, never heard of these either! Tell your son he needs to go back to his co-worker & pick his brain about these things!! I'd love to know more about them too!! Maybe they're a fiber-optic sort of thing?

AHHHHHH Fiber OPTICS! Now that's a method she could use for lighting that wouldn't add any weight! LOL

We have used long lead LED lights in a lot of our miniature work. These are low voltage and the power use is so small you can get by with very fine wire (light weight)...If would be pretty easy to make some starry constellations with these.

Yikes! The landlord was Here!!!!! She loved the artwork but was less than impressed that I mounted it to the ceiling. According to her, when the company big wigs come through it may have to be removed. I said; "okay I will remove it, and after they leave I will put it right back up again! And I told her that there will be a lot of VERY disappointed people on Home Talk if I remove it."....lol..no worries kiddies I will keep it as long as possible!

Well Therese - Since it's temporary and can be removed then WHAT DO THEY CARE?? As long as something isn't permanent I don't get why on earth they would tell you it needs to be removed. That's like hanging a picture or anything else, except that you put it on the 5th wall i.e. the ceiling. Would they tell you you can't have any accessories on your walls at all???

I can see the landlord coming through once in a while, with advance notice, but why on earth ...»

would the "company big wigs" need to inspect your apartment? That seems like an invasion of privacy to me!!

Seriously Susan is right, that is just rediculous! You pay rent for a reason...

Just to clarify...the company is supposed to be remodeling the units so they do inspections to see which ones to start on first..but then again, they have been saying they are remodeling since 2004...lol..I'm leaving it until they make me take it down! (I'm such a rebel)

A little revolution is good...actually a lot of revolution is good.

OHHHH - well, I guess THAT puts a different slant on the situation!!! Especially if there might be cracks in the ceiling and things of that nature. BUT, after they're done and you know the liklihood of remodeling being started isn't right around the corner, definitely slap those babies right back up there!! LOL ;~)

@KMS - yep, if there's wasn't a bit of revolution in all of us then we'd pretty much be stuck in status quo.

Pssssst...the styro-board went up on the walls today for the mural, but unfortunately I leave the state now for 2 wks training..but I will be back soon with brush in hand!...And my incredibly talented son came up with a brilliant idea for the lightening effects! See you all at the grand display!!!! (gosh, I hope it is grand anyway) and I am considering posting pictures as the mural progresses (should be done in one day)..what do you all think?

I'm hooooooome!!!!!! Time to get this mural started! I do believe this evening will be a perfect time and perfect lighting yo get started on it..my daughter will be taking random photos to show the progress. It may be bit slower than anticipated as my back is giving me fits since coming home. Oh, and good news...I am moving into a larger unit shortly and that means MORE WALLS!!! I have a room to do for my 3 yr old grandson and he has requested it to be decorated with giant Styro-Board tools. This will be fun!
