Sherrie S on Jul 01, 2012Kim S, yes it is a monarch caterpillar. Without milkweed the Monarch butterfly would be extinct. I have a bed full of the milkweed just for the Monarch.Helpful Reply

Kim S on Jul 01, 2012Because most of the monarch butterflies were killed while over wintering in Mexico when they had a freeze. To rebuild the monarch population people can plant milkweed; which is a lovely plant. Monarchs lay their eggs on the plants and the caterpillars eat the milkweed when they hatch. Just doing my part; and how cool that it actually worked!Helpful Reply
