DIY Coffee Bar/Buffet

I have an obsession with coffee. It could also be called an addiction. An unhealthy dependency. Whatever. Point is, in the mornings, I love drinking coffee.
Its not just about the need for caffeine by 8:30 am or my head will explode and I become a not so nice person. Its about my waking up process. My routine.
The sun is just rising and the house is quiet. The birds aren't making tons of noise yet. The water outside is peaceful. It is my favorite time of day. Just me on the couch, with my coffee and sometimes a dog or two, mentally prepping for the day, e-mailing, blogging and slowly waking up. When the weather is right, I'll take my coffee and computer outside to sit on the deck.
We bought a Keurig 3 years ago and I love it. The only problem is, ours is one of the bigger models and takes up too much counter space in my small kitchen. I decided to use my grandparents' dresser I refinished as a buffet and coffee bar in our dining area.
It has tons of storage for baking dishes and other pans I don't use often plus our nice utensils and coffee supplies. The refrigerator is just opposite of the buffet so it is not a far reach to get the creamers out.
This dresser is one of the things I remember about my grandparents' room. I love that my grandmother let me have it and make it my own. The dresser is solid pine but had some major scratches and dents. I decided to stain the top but paint and glaze the body. This was my first big refinishing project. I did this way before Fisherman's Wife Furniture was even starting to be an idea. It is one of my favorite pieces in the house and I love that it is used every single day and is not collecting dust and being forgotten about.
This dresser turned coffee bar/buffet provides tons of storage. Our small home does not have a lot of extra space and storage so it is nice to have a huge piece of furniture like this to help. This dresser is over 70" long!

Here is the before.
Not bad but definitely dated.

It now lives in my dining room along the blank wall.
All of our coffee mugs are stored in the buffet for quick access.
The extra K-cups fit perfectly in the bottom drawer.
On the top of the buffet I have all of the different coffees and teas stored in glass containers and sweetener in the cute fish bowl.
I still can't believe the transformation. Not bad for my first try. :)

How did the Fisherman's Wife get the paint on the bottom to look aged like that? I have a dresser similar to this one and I think painting it the same way as this would like fantastic in my dining room... but I have no idea how to get this look! Any advice would be great! Thank you...

Love this piece and I am looking to do the same thing. How did you do it?

In doing the same thing. I haven't completed yet because I can't decide if I want chalkboard paint on that blank wall or marble tile I have or what. So there it sits. Also can't decide on hanging lights or 1 lamp or 2 lamps. Lol But you did an excellent job with your faux painting. My cupboards are also faux painted like your dresser. Going for the French country look with natural stone back splash. Keep up the good work. I may actually start my blog one of these days. I've been doing DIY stuff before it became so popular.
