Mirror Makeover

Where I'm from we have a saying that goes something like "she has champagne taste on a beer budget". I'll be the first to admit that's me. When we started our bathroom re-do, I had pinned a photo of a bathroom with a huge ornate mirror that I just fell in love with. Our bathroom is small so I was limited to just how huge I could go, but I loved the rounded lines of the inspiration mirror. So, the hunt was on. I actually found one that was perfect in a local antique store. But the almost $300 price tag made it a no-go.
But then, just when I was about to give up, my son spotted this great thrift store find. Priced at $9.99 and just the right size. Even better? Blue tags were half off that day so I scored it for $5. I knew that it was dated, and ugly and plastic but I just had a feeling that with a good coat of paint, it could become "the" mirror.
Great curves and detail on this thrifted find
I gave it a quick wash with Krud Kutter to make sure that my paint would stick well. I loved the curved detail on this mirror.
Gold Leaf spray paint
After masking off the mirror part with newspaper and painters tape, I gave the frame several light coats of this wonderful gold leaf spray paint. Really gives a nice finish without the work (or price) of real gold leaf.
Several light goats of gold leaf later
Photo just doesn't do it justice. You would never know that it was a $5 plastic mirror from a thrift store.
I really love the way it looks in our little bathroom. And I love the price. Around $10. Visit the link below for the full post!
