Betty on Aug 21, 2014I would leave it as is, too. I like seeing the grain of the wood. Clean it well with lemon oil and then see if you still want to change it. You might want to polish the hardware to make them stand out more.Helpful Reply

And since you are posting from Ireland, I would suggest you see what you can find out about what you have before you paint it. If you want to brighten it up, clean it good and add some bright pretty vases on top!Helpful Reply
