Adding Custom Spa Completes Backyard Refuge

While spas, including custom ones, are frequently installed on their own, when they are part of a pool/spa combination, they can be a key element in a true backyard refuge. Having both features means there is so much for everyone to do. Kids can be playing in the pool, while Dad’s at the barbecue, and Mom is letting spa massage jets provide a spa treatment.
Other benefits: In the cooler months, the outdoor season is extended with a spa; and when entertaining, a spa allows for more options than pool parties. Guests can be invited to enjoy foot baths, herbal treatments, and even facials.
For this project, the homeowners were already savvy to what a spa offered. We were called in to upgrade an existing pool and spa, but with plumbing dating back to the 1980s.
Long Island Hot Tub put together a team of consultants and experts and came up with a complete plan that included: (1) upgrading the existing pool and spa; (2) expansion of the property’s confining upper and lower patios; (3) addition of new colorful plants and flowers to enhance the opened up water views; and (4) a complete outdoor kitchen to replace a stand-alone barbecue.

In this project, the spa constantly fills up with, and circulates, pool water. Then this water falls via the spa’s spillover channel back into the pool. The upgrade expanded this spillover into a larger waterfall and added boulders to create a more beautiful scene.
By expanding the upper patio, we increased the shade area where those leaving the spa or pool can escape the sun. We also refinished the inside of the pool and spa, changing them from white to gray. The new color reacts with the water to give the more desirable ‘natural lagoon” affect.
New stepping stone path beside the pool provides a swath of natural charm within the expansive patio areas; swim-out steps were also added to the pool.
We used natural stone for the veneer of the new outdoor kitchen. It is ideally situated with a dining area near the pool’s swim out steps for easy entertaining.
New plantings were included to screen out unwanted views; also, the addition of colorful plants and flowers were strategically placed to enhance the breathtaking water views.
