"New" Stairs. Ripped up the Nasty Carpet & the Long Project Began
by

(IC: homeowner)
Lots of hours, MDF, primer, paint, sanding, stain and poly. My hubby sure is glad its over! He did every inch of it. I helped some. Mostly I just brought him cold beers.
After pic (we wrapped the carpet around the nose of the top landing) We decided to add wainscot in the stairwell, but then took it all through the hallway too. My husband was so happy with me at this point.
Before. We hated the 80's stain color, old carpet and brown everywhere.
After. Found the balusters at Habitat for Humanity Restore by pure accident. This project could wait no longer.
Before.
After. Foyer floor was original- and will (eventually) be stained darker to match the new flooring next to it. Luckily for us, the treads under the carpet had a bull-nose.

Venus Thecla Correa Mynatt on Feb 03, 2015wow...what a difference...being a child of the 50's I remember home decor in the 70's very well. As a matter of fact I bought my first home in the 70's and yes, the carpets were brown...loved it because stains never showed. But my first love has always been, and will always be wood floors! My parents had beautiful Koa floors throughout my childhood home. Talk about beautiful! Not the easiest thing to maintain with the buffing and upkeep but well worth the effort. You did an awesome job! What a difference it made to the home. Job well done. Thanks for sharing you project with us. I have a feeling the stairs will be a keeper for many years to come!
