Add a Little Color to Your Life!

Have you ever noticed how one little thing can change your entire style of decorating? When we bought our home I had visions of this quaint little cottage with pinks and lavenders and a ton of white. I painted all the woodwork a clean bright white (it was ugly tan) and put a warm shade called Latte on all the upper walls. A nice neutral pallet that works with any style or decor. And then I started to fill my home with nice muted shades of cream and brown and my very favorite blue with a few pinks thrown in here and there. But all of that changed as I got older. I think it stared when I was so drawn to this sign that I had to bring it home...
It was like I suddenly had free reign to add pops of color here and there.
Before I knew it, bold splashes of that vibrant mix of 50's colors started to fill my kitchen. It's an odd collection of things and colors, but with the white trim and the warm walls, it works.
My TEA sign used to be a window in my sisters old barn. I added the vinyl letters and painted the back of the glass and used it in my retail shop above the tea display for several years. Gives me a warm happy feeling when I look at it and think of all the cups of tea I shared with my customers over the years. The vintage birdcage (an awesome green color that you can't really see in the photo) filled with orange poppies was a gift from my son. Another smile inducer.
And to top it all off, a nice little jolt of red "HEY" to help start my day. First thing I see as I'm filling my coffee cup in the morning. It was a great lesson to me to let go and bring some color in. The beautiful thing about my warm neutral wall color is that when I'm tired of all that color, I can pick up a few new to me accessories at my favorite thrift and fleas, grab a rattle can of paint and change it up again. Now go...embrace yourself some color!
