Rescued Chandelier Makeover

My MIL acquired a dining room chandelier from some friends who were remodeling and were going to throw it away. The things people throw away – hard to believe!
This thing was definitely a diamond in the rough. It has great bones, but the two tone metallic finish was a little dated and doesn’t match the style of the house.
I removed the plastic “candlesticks” and taped the electrical with blue painter’s tape. I also removed the chain with pliers at this point because I knew I was gonna be replacing it.


I first did a coat of black spray paint, so that when I distressed it the black paint would show underneath. Then I did two coats of Rustoleum’s Heirloom White. This is my favorite white spray paint color – its a lovely antique white, not too ivory or yellow.


After all the paint was dry, I sanded the raised details and edges with 120 grit sand paper and used a flat screwdriver to scrape the paint off of some spots to further
We are going to get some burlap shades to put over the candlesticks.
