My old mailbox turned into a planter!

I was having a yardsale one Saturday, and was going to put my old mailbox up for sale...when I pulled it out of the storage shed, I found an old bird nest in it, and an idea blossomed in my mind, from that point that grew into this! We took the mailbox, an old planter, a bag of cement, and TA-DA! A beautiful new planter!

Perfect. I have had our old mailbox just chilling on the ground, up by the garage. I am so doing this. Question?? Did you take the bottom out of the flower pot and put the post deeper in the ground and then the cement? Or just the post in the pot with cement? Also ,how are the plants in the mailbox?
