I highly recommend KaBoom Scrub Free. I think both L's and HoDe carry it. We have four bathrooms and I'm the only female in the house so I HATE cleaning toilets anymore than I have to. Once I found this stuff I felt like I had a maid service. You still have to clean the outside of the toilets on a regular basis, but this keeps the insides clean for up to three months, depending on how often it's flushed. And no I do not work for the company. I'm a housewife. http://www.kaboomkaboom.com/products/kaboom-scrub-free-toilet-cleaning-system-refill-2-pack.aspx And hello to you in San Jose! My hubby just finished a job in the bay area at Lucille Packard Children's Hospital.

@ hometalk Use the works can be bought a dollar store. Takes rust away from bath tubs and Toliet, 5 minutes bathroom looks new. The worst thing to use in a toilet s those thing that just hang inside, it damages your pipes

I agree the works is the best you can also use what you throw in the tank which will keep it clean for at least a month if not longer.

I love The Works--for Toilets. I squirt it on, wait a minute or two and brush. Instant clean. Just don't leave it on long...it might stain the bowl. Also make sure you get a brush that actually gets up and under the rim. Some don't. Ps. The Works also has a tub and tile cleaner that's just as wonderful. We have hard water and the staining/cleaning can be a nightmare. This makes the job so easy.

You have to remember to clean under the rim. two of my toilets are 43 years old and under the rim is clean. No matter what you use, you can't let that kind of thing get ahead of you!

Use cheap cola. Pour a whole bottle (2litres) into the toilet last thing at night. In the morning the bowl will be spotless. Plain old bleach and elbow grease for under the rim though x

turn off water, flush then add one packet lemonade koolaid & leave swish the brush if you have to... mostly can just flush... This worked in my MIL home where she has dementia & no one had cleaned the thing for YEARS the build up was about 1/3-1/2 inches in the very bottom. Swish the stuff around if you have a ring where the water line hits... Then I get the scrubbing bubbles stuff you put in the toilet where the water runs over the bowl NOT the tank,,, things in the tank tend to mess things up... You should check the tank to make sure that you don't have rust and lime in there that needs to be cleaned also.... AND flush!! I know that sounds wasteful but you end up using less chemicals anyway... if you have a way to use grey water... which builders need to try to do in the future... that is great!!

polident denture tablets also work great but my favorite thing is "THE WORKS"

I tried The Works once and it about killed me with the fumes. I couldn't breath. Granted I'm sensitive to things like that, but still, I wouldn't recommend it no matter how well it cleaned if there's a chance it could be harmful. There is absolutely no smell to Kaboom. It does warn not to touch the tablet that goes in the holder that goes in the tank.

@Sparkles, that's sad. I steam clean almost everything else so I never even knew Kaboom had a tub cleaner. The toilet bowl cleaner doesn't have a scent at all as far as I can tell and I'm hyper sensitive to chemicals.
