I went out to work on our well. Its very full of vines and muscadines growing wild, trees everywhere .Shade and some sun peeking through.. I looked behind the well(above ground) about 5yards away and saw this beautiful pink flower or berry amongst all the green .I live about two miles from the MT Island dam in NC. There is lots of underground streams in this area and it stays moist in this area where I found it.Hope this description helps. Thanks

We have some thing that may be similar in NW Florida. Ours is a lighter pink and is a fungus that attaches itself to the plant. Ours is kind of hard, like plastic.

I think KB is correct. It's easy to see where it gets its common name, American strawberry bush, and it is native to the shady understory of moist forests, which sounds like exactly where you found it.

Yes these do feel like plastic and its a vine with those leaves attached. It is located over where the ground stays wet, Do you remove it or leave it alone? Thanks for responding.

@Sheryl If it is indeed Euonymus americanus, it should be a shrub, not a vine, and it is a lovely native, so there would be no reason to remove it.
