If so, then the first piece of advice I have for you to is grab a garbage can and walk through inch by inch and pick up all things garbage and broken. Then I may advise to walk around and pick up items that you know that you no longer want and need and take care of them now. Then take pics at different angles so you can see what others see-I have given this advice and it really can help you see what others see. Then I would take one room or one closet and have 3 boxes, laundry baskets, or totes and one if for donation, one to put away in its proper place, and one you cannot decide if it is a keeper or not. Do not try to do it all in one day or you will go crazy. Starting with a room you are in the most like a bedroom or kitchen is usually what I help people with. Once you get a room organized and cleaned it makes you feel so good. If you find yourself putting down your keys and losing them, then you need to hang a key holder at teh back door where your coats and shoes are so when you walk in the door the keys get hung up. This is best thing we ever did as a family! there are so many small things to do that can make the biggest impacts. alway tear up and recycle junk mail-do not put it down to look at later or throw away because it will sit-i know this is what happens. baby steps-that is where you need to start.Helpful Reply

Jan Posey Comer-Shipman on Sep 03, 2014Aww..I just decluttered our home prior to putting on the market and moving. Start with an EASY/SMALL room. This will help you build confidence. Definitely have 4 containers KEEP, DONATE, TRASH, and ??. Look at each wall, pictures as indicated above could be a big help. The other thing that is handy is a cordless drill/screwdriver and hammer/pry bar so that as you go you can remove any nails or screws from anything that you remove from the wall, a small plastic container will give you some place to put all the nails/screws you take down. Organize as you go and do not get distracted by taking things to other rooms, it can overwhelm you. I also found that having the vacuum and a cleaning caddy with me allows me to keep moving. If you are a multi-tasker, you might want to lay a note pad/pen in the room so that anything you see or think of that needs further attention can be noted for later. Once you THINK you are done, look at everything again which can best be done AFTER you have had sometime away (the next day) and also have a trusted friend look at it through their eyes.Helpful Reply
