Painting a Couch: Is It Worth It?

Is painting a couch worth it or do you just wind up with a big, crunchy mess? I give the project a thumbs up and here's why.
I chose to use up my collection of acrylic porch paint instead of expensive fabric paint/spray paint. Overall, I needed a gallon and a half of paint for 2 coats to cover the 84" long couch that also splits into two loveseats.
When painting a couch, be mindful of the fabric texture. This couch is a mix of velvet and burlap-like woven material. The smoother the fabric will give smoother results but since this couch was destined for the enclosed porch, it didn't need to be super soft.
Sanding is the key to painting a couch and creating a smooth surface. The resulting texture was smooth yet hard and sweat-inducing, very much like patio upholstery fabric. For me, this worked. Nothing a light cotton throw won't remedy.
