What causes this in these tomatoes?

I have no idea what these problems are or how to prevent them. Ideas?
What's causing the light brown at the bottom?
In this photo, notice the darker red areas. In the photo on the left, it's circular and the lighter area in the center is NOT soft like the darker areas are. In the tomato on the right, the darker area is also softer and covers a large

I suspect you are waiting too long to harvest, Louise. You can actually pick tomatoes any time after they are past the "breaker" stage, when they are half green and half pink, because at this point a layer of cells forms across the stem of the tomato, effectively sealing it off from the main plant. At this point, the tomato is not getting any more nutrition from the plant. Many sources recommend picking tomatoes when they are "pink" in areas where summers are hot, which they certainly are in Georgia.

OK, so I started picking the tomatoes before they were completely red. But now, instead of a boo-boo on them (see tomato at the top), they have yellow areas (see the tomato at the bottom). Why? I always thought "vine ripened" meant literally turning very red on the vine. No so?

@Louise I suspect the are just unevenly ripening. Have you cut into one and seen how they look, and, more important, taste? Vine ripened probably does mean turning very red on the vine, and that is what would happen under ideal circumstances. But, in the deep South, we do not have ideal circumstances for raising tomatoes in the summer. It's too hot, so we have to make allowances.

I have the same issue... I've been told to have my soil sampled that there may be a deficiency in my soil. I am going to do this this year.

It looks like you have what is called blossom ( or bottom ) end rot. It is a lack of calcium in your soil.

looks like sun blister or you need to put lime in your soil !

Might be blight. I add skim milk powder to the soil to try to prevent this.

looks like blight to me, comes from cold moist air, one way to prevent this is to cover the plants with a crop cover.
