Flower boots

Found these children's boots at the thrift store for 3 bucks, drilled holes in them, filled the bottoms with peanut packing and dirt and found some impatiens that match. Now they sit in front of the hog house lookin cute!

Very, Very Cute!!!! When you say you filled the bottoms of peanut packing? Did you mean, peanut packing as the white strofoam peanuts you ship with? If so, how much on the bottom do you put and about how much dirt!!! So, So Cute!

Hi Liz! Yes, stryofoam peanut packing. Just make sure it isn't the dissolvable kind (which looks like pink cheetos). For this project I filled the bottoms of the boots about half way up the boot, then the rest with dirt. When filling anything to plant in think about how much room a mature plant's roots will take up and then fill accordingly. Every plant will only grow so deep, even in regular soil when it's unencumbered. I put it in the bottom of all my pots. It creates good drainage and ...»
makes the pot alot lighter to move. When working with a larger pot (like a whiskey barrel) I cut screen to fit on top of the peanuts before filling with dirt, then if you ever refurbish the dirt you don't have to pick out all the peanuts. It's easy on small pots (and boots). I just never put them into nature, they can be reused again and again.

For starters, I think The Flower Rain Boots are Extremely Adorable!!!! And I'm def. going to try it!!! Remember, imitation is the best flattery!!! :) And as for the styrofoam peanut packing tip.....WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!! Very, very smart! I usually try to put small rocks or bigger one's depending on the pot size of the bottom of all my pots to help with drainage & so true.....Now I would actually be able to lift them afterwards! lol Thank you so much....that's a very helpful tip!

These are so cute!! My mother-in-law has a pair of my father-in-law's old work boots filled with chicks and hens which I dearly love. But I have to admit the children's boots filled with impatiens in front of the old wagon seat is simply adorable!! I just love it! Great idea!!

I have a couple of pairs of firefighter boots, which are already pretty heavy. I'm thinking lots of yellow trailing flowers for them, because of their height. Do you drill holes in the bottom of the boots as well as putting in the stones or popcorn?
