    As long as you are replacing this plant with a potted plant that's been established in the pot, it should be ok. I don't dig maples during the growing season. Too stressful. Dig when dormant.

    jap maples are always susceptible to cracked bark in winter months. Leading to cankers & eventual death. Make sure you plant them where they do not get direct sin on them in winter.
