Garden mailbox toolshed

Had this old package sized mailbox so decided to repurpose it into a mini shed out at my vegie garden. Now everything I need is right at my fingertips and everything stays dry and clean! So many people ask me why there is a mailbox out in my garden!

I have had one in my flower garden for at least 6 years now and it works great to hold a few newspapers (to lay under the mulch to help get rid of weeds), my small gardening tools, plant ID tags, twine, gloves and sun visor. I may walk to the garden to admire the plants, but also have my equipment necessary to take care of weeds or to cut that special bloom to bring to the house.

This is one of the best/most useful ideas I have seen on this forum! I have tried several things short of erecting a shed, as my garden is 2 acres away from my house! I will definitely be using your idea!

I never thought to use a mail box! I use an old milk box from when I used to have my dairy delivered to my front door. It also holds my hot tube chemicals.

I'll be painting it a new color this year. It's almost gardening time! If only Mother Nature knew that!

We put up a new mailbox one year and the other half wanted to trash our old mailbox, it was the large rural one beat up by the snowplow a few times. I painted it a pretty shade of blue and put it in a flower garden near the driveway. It has come in handy for lots of things. It also stores some of my gardening tools, but it is also a good place to leave items for people to pick up or drop off items, the postman sometimes puts items that are not small enough for the new mailbox, and to say the least it is a neat decoration.

We use one in the back of the yard for dog clean up supplies. Things stay dry and close to the action.

Julee: When people ask why you have a mailbox in your garden, explain this is where the stork drops off babies.

Love the idea. I'm always in the garden and sometimes have to trek back in the house for snippers or gloves. This would take care of that problem. Love it. I just wonder how you keep the earwigs and spiders out. I have a large mailbox on my porch and the earwigs and spiders love it.. I suppose caulking might help and a latch on the box lid to keep it tight.

I now have a Pink One thanks to my husband and it is mounted on the side of the house with the flag up. All my garden hand tools are now in one spot and convenient. Who knows maybe someone will drop a note in it!

A cube of camphor inside will abate all rust from forming inside the box as well as on the tools. Old farmers trick.

When we moved into our house 12 years ago there was a mailbox by the garden for this purpose. Our son was 2 and into Blues Clues so I painted it like the mailbox from the show. It is so faded now, but still there smiling at us!

Don't know about the ants but, you can put it in anything metal and stop rust before it starts. Inside a tool box. We have put it inside the doors of our antique volkswagen bus that are known to rust. Works miracles.
