Charming. (And what kinds of melon are you growing?) -
honey dew and watermelon. -
You have a great place to sit and enjoy them. -
Thank you Douglas Hunt. I read your bio and background...I'm sure we'll cross paths here often :) -
Very intimate and inviting Dusti - while you enjoy some homegrown honey dews or watermelons!! How do you keep your pillows, seat cushions & window treatments from getting wet when it rains??? -
Great job! This looks like a secret garden! -
This looks like a place to read "Sense and Sensibility!" Thanks for the inspiration today! -
We don't get a lot of summer rain in CA. I move the stuff into dry storage during the winter months. -
Thanks all for the kind comments. It's nothing fancy but really comfy and functional. -
Understood Dusti!! Our weather is so predictably unpredictable that you never quite know what's gonna hit or when!! I loved a couple of the summer porch ideas I saw here on HT, so I put a pretty, bright quilt over our bench, throw pillows everywhere on chairs, bench etc. and it seems like all I get done is jump up to run out and bring it all in. One night @2:30 I heard it thundering and lightening to beat the band - that was the last straw!! Enjoy you creation and the wonderful summer weather you have in Ca. -
Breathtaking.=) I love spending time outside and this looks very inviting.. -
Thanks. Update: Due to 105 weather, 3 of my honeydew melons exploded...They were shaded and well watered. Sigh. I picked a 4th and it's not quite ripe. Oh well, still a pretty area...And to Susan S in Fredricksburg VA, we had crazy unexpected thunderstorms in the middle of the night complete with lightning last night. Hot enough today that everything dried out! -
Oh No Sorry to here about your melons I love Honeydews!.. The temps have been in the 100's here too and no rain in the forecast still Ugh! It's hard to try and keep everything green, my grass is dying and my plants are suffering bad and we have to watch out for those unexpected tornado's "scarey"....Stay cool! and enjoy your little area. -
OH OH - hope I didn't jinx you Dusti!! LOL So sorry about your melons exploding - did that happen because of the heat?? Glad everything decorative dried out and didn't get blown away!! -
Not sure why they exploded. Maybe Douglas Hunt could help with why they explode (OK, crack to let out pressure?) I water regularly...I was bummed but that's OK, other garden goodies (Peaches, nectarines, tomatoes, squash, etc.) are producing like mad! -
The usual reason for a melon splitting is that there has been a a dry spell followed by abundant rain. The ensuing rapid growth spurt causes the melon to split. -
Doug always has the answer!! So basically these melons just got too full of themselves!! -
:) Guess three 100 degree days and me not checking their size for 4 days will do the trick...sigh..I water regularly and don't let the "hills" dry out completely ever. (They prob were not ripe as other melon I picked was not ripe when cut open...sigh...) Hey, at least they're producing and I haven't had pest or mildew issues. -
It sounds like you're doing exactly the right things, Dusti. Sometimes these things just happen no matter what precautions we take.
