Wood flooring design under stain

Question

A while back, someone posted a wonderful trick for adding a design onto a wood floor and then staining OVER the design, the design turned out lighter than the rest of the flooring around it. I can't find it anywhere!!! any ideas? It was fairly simple, but I can't remember what they used!!

I imagine if you polyurethaned the lighter parts first, the stain would not soak in there.

I found it!!!!!! suddenly remembered that it was using glue or mod podge that made the design!!!! can't wait to do this on my floor!!! http://designsbystudioc.com/use-glue-resist-technique-stain/
