Roof trusses open
-
Z on Sep 11, 2014You'll have to check with your local inspector to see what the requirements are for insulation, but yes, it could be possible if there's is enough space for the proper insulation. My guess is you'd need to cover the trusses and add faux beams on top of the drywall to get the right R-rating for your location though.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Sep 11, 2014No they cannot be left exposed unless you add cross bracing to prevent them from moving. The drywall on the ceiling supports the trusses from moving side to side. While there are 2x4 boards most likely in place that were set there to keep them aligned on 24 inch centers when the building was constructed the drywall really does all of the work. This is not to say you cannot do this, but you would need to install bracing to prevent them from moving. The other issue you have like Becky stated is the insulation. You can move this up higher but will need to provide the proper support and ventilation in order to keep things working as they should. You also have to contend with the wires, pipes and all the other stuff that is hidden perhaps that you do not see without the drywall missing.Helpful Reply

Darlene on Sep 15, 2014I saw it on Pinterest with leaving the cross beams open and got too much saying no so didn't do it. Our ceilings caved in after stripping shingles off because of rain, so was gonna change the look to open up the roomHelpful Reply
