I painted the inside of the drawers with a high-gloss oil based paint. i just wipe them down with a wet paper towel dabbed in a little Clorox Ceanu. i hope this helps.

That is a really clever idea! Makes me wonder why drawer partitions aren't routinely offered as an option on new cabinetry ...

Even with the plastic dividers I find that dirt still gets in the drawers and while it is simple to pull out the plastic divider to wash, I do need to wipe out the drawer as well. The high gloss paint, as mentioned by Curb Alert, would definitely help to make it easier. I have also been known to pull the entire drawer out to shake it out and/or wipe it

This is a neat idea. If you have to clean just use a wet paper towel. Nothing to it.

I need every inch of space in my drawers, these dividers take up at least 2" . Plastic dividers are invisible to anyone but the cook. And removable and washable. These must be for someone who doesn't cook much.

well for those of you who need to pull it out and clean it.. make it on a piece of wall paneling, then it can be pulling in and out like a tray

But then you have all of those little compartments to try to scrub out. I started using the stainless steel, mesh type silverware trays. The crumbs fall through, it is super easy to pull out and clean and then I just have one big drawer with 4 corners to worry about cleaning out. And the tray can go in the dishwasher!

I have a small hand held vaccum that I use in my kitchen, I use it to clean out my drawers, it really works good for crumbs.

no scrubbing needed. damp papertowel with cleaner on it and you're done. the grout means no small hard to reach corners! I can only see a problem if you're one that only cleans this drawer out after a very long time....then yes, ofcourse cleanup is going to be a bigger problem!

I can't wait to do this to my drawers :)

I have these too in our house. Love it...such an easy DIY! I wish mine were all white on the inside though, but ours matches the wood so that's fine too.

I happened to find some prefinished wooden inserts that were the perfect width for my drawers. The trays run vertically with the drawer so hubby screwed them in flush with the back so the left over space is at the front of the drawer. This allows me to use every slot in the tray and use the 3" at the front of the drawer for marking pens, etc. As for cleaning, it is no problem. They have a good coat of varnish so I wipe them down with a damp cloth and then a little chlorox kitchen cleaner ...»
sprayed on a cloth...then rinse with a damp cloth. Easy! I love mine! Watch for them on sale and there are even adjustable ones at The Container Store!

Its not hard to clean at all!! I lay the silverware all out on a towel and use a damp cloth. As for crumbs......... I don't have any! (am I suppose to??)

Mine aren't as wide as shown, as mentioned before, I need all the space I can get.

What is it with people with no crumbs in their silverware drawer? How do you do it? I get crumbs everywhere! And we don't have small children! It has got to be hubby cause I KNOW I am not that messy! I will be speaking to him soon about this! HA! (I also wonder who in the world is sneaking into our house to stir up a mess in the cabnet drawers? I straighten them out about once a year and before I know it, they are a mess. (I think it is hubby's fault because...ONCE AGAIN...I KNOW it just can't be me!)

Seriously...all drawers are removable so you can take them out, turn them upside down and wipe them out till you cannot stand it anymore...!!!

I prepare food directly above the silverware drawer. so if the drawer is not closed perfectly, it catches crumbs. hubby is worse than me, because he doesn't make sure it is closed. so yes, we get crumbs in our drawer, and it can be aggravating to have to keep cleaning it out. :)
