Bedroom decor around a dark carpet

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Sep 16, 2014I would defintitely do the walls in a light taupe/gray. Do you have a Lowe's near you? check out Valspar color dustbunny or oatland suble taupeand look at some greays that are more blue and start from there. they are not light but not medium. they are a grreat color to use to neutralize a room. for the bedding I would choose something in the color and tones as the wall and use pillows and accents in colors to pick up the carpet color. maybe some velvet pillow, or brocade because you want some texture on top of your bed. do not use the same pattern or even fabric so that you can keep the focused on the bed which sounds like you want as the focal point. Wallpaper one wall? I would try paint first and spend the money in curtains and bedding. If you are going to wallpaper one wall think about doing where the bed is. You want one focal point to keep the eye there and not roaming and bouncing all over the room. with the curtains choose curtains with texture and rich color to compliment the carpet with wrought iron rods and finials or a rich looking wood rod. add crown molding and paint the ceiling a light color of the walls so that the ceiling is not screaming white and the floor is screaming dark. i love purple and gray goes great with purple. i would also pull in some white in accessories or whatever is your mom's fave color. good luck and i hopethis gets your wheels turningHelpful Reply

The Chirping Frog on Oct 02, 2014I just helped a friend with her bedroom... she had dark carpet, dark bold walls (some chocolate brown and the rest a deep, dark orange) and her closet doors were covered in bold artwork (which was her inspiration)... she had no bed and the room just needed pulled together..... we went with simple bedding, toned down her drapes (they are now cream like the bedding vs. dark like before....).... it really needed that to help tone down everything else and give the room some interest with the contrast.... it turned out really good.... We bought the bed, changed out curtains and bedding and lamps..... we used all other existing furniture (bedside tables and tv stand).... she could still use a chair for a small seating area in the opposite corner, it feels so homey now.Helpful Reply

Jill Valeri on Oct 10, 2014You could place a room-sized area rug on top of the carpet in a lighter palette that includes a bit of the burgundy. Leave a revealed border of th ecarpet of about 6" all the way around. This would lighten the space and introduce a neutral color (and other accent colors found in the rug) that can inspire the color scheme for the room.Helpful Reply
