Plaster patching

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Sep 18, 2014Simple project. If there is a hole behind the mounting you will need to fill this first. There are two methods of doing this. You can cut a small board and work it into the hole then using screws fasten the board on each side of the hole. Once that is done and the board is bridging across the opening, cut a small piece of drywall and fasten it in the hole. Follow using spackle that is pre mixed and smooth out until flush. Sand and paint. Another method is to use a drywall patch. This screen of sorts can be purchased at most home centers. It has a sticky side to it. You simply cut it and place it over the hole opening where it sticks to the surface. Follow up by using spackle and feather out after several thin coats. The old school method which should work well for you is to crumple up some news papers into a small ball and push into the opening until it is filled up. Then purchase a small bag of drywall compound, not the pre mixed stuff. This powder form of drywall compound is fast drying so you need to move a bit faster then normal drywall compound would require. Mix about a baseball size amount of the powder to a consistency of peanut butter, and using a 4 inch taping knife push the mix into the wall trying to make it flush with the surface. Let dry for a few hours and sand flush. You may need to mix a 2nd or even a 3rd coat to complete the project. But once done you should never even know it was there. Using a wet sponge you can easily sand the surface flat without creating all sorts of dust using the traditional method of sand paper.Helpful Reply
