How to Make a Birdbath from a Large Salad Plate

When I go tag saling I keep my eyes open for anything unusual that can be used in the garden so when I saw this large salad bowl/plate I bought it. I knew I wanted to use it as an unusual birdbath. It was $3. and I also bought some pretty green glass stones at a tag sale to put in the plate. I think it looks good in the garden, don't you?

Thanks for looking. Linda

How it looks in front of the little frog pond. We used to have fish in there but now it's just frogs. I like frogs so it's okay.

It's so dry here in Southwest Iowa that the water in our bird baths doesn't last more than a day. We have to fill it everyday. At least we don't have to worry about mosquito larvae in there! Very nice idea!

I agree with Rhonda Thompson Leonard....looks like I live right across the river from her & we would need a large soup bowl rather than a salad plate to keep water in it for even 12 hrs especially now with our draught but I love love this plate & with the colored stones it is so refreshing to look at.

we moved into an apartment, 3rd floor and I am desperatly missing my garden. I have some hanging plants but I am really missing my butterflys and garden decorations and birds!! We do have woods behind us and that helps. Any ideas?

@Bobbie if you hang a shallow dish of sugar water and a little dab of mud, (yes mud) from an area that you see butterflys congregate then they should come to visit and drink the sugar water....they like the mud because it gives them essential minerals.... Also a Dish garden on the Balcony is a wonderful way to help get over being in an apt vs a house and yard...

You can find anything at tag sales. That's the beauty of them and for a tenth of the original price. I did a post on my blog on ways to get cheaper prices at tag sales.

At my old house I had a small straw wreath and tied jute to it in three places so that it hung from my deck roof even. I sat a medium sized bowl inside of it(so that it fits well) and then fill it with water and a few rocks for the butterflys and some birds to hang out on. I just loved it!
