The Garden Frog with C Renee on Sep 22, 2014I am sorry computer malfunction on that answer which I thought was for another post. You need to put in insulation and vapor barrier and then drywall over the brick. Without a vapor barrier you will get moisture from the outside. Are the walls framed in? a picture would help for anyone who can help you.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Sep 23, 2014Many older tile walls were done using a thick bed of cement mortar to adhere the tiles to the wall. When removed the pattern mimics that of a brick pattern. This is a difficult material to remove as it can be a few inches thick. You will know that if the top course of the tiles protruded out from the wall about a half inch or so. In any case you can easily water proof this wall using a product called Schluter Kerdi. This membrane is applied using a thin set mortar. It is a fleeced line plastic material that is water proof and will seal the walls completely. If the wall is uneven you will need to first level this by using thin set mortar or cement board. Followed by the membrane. I have used this very successfully for many years without any leaks or moisture issues at all. Here is a link for the Schluter system. You can find this product at most Home Depot stores. Or any high quality tile stores. Be sure to use the proper Modified thin set cement to attach it to the wall and the tile to it. http://www.schluter.com/8_1_kerdi.aspxHelpful Reply
