I have a door way I would like to make into an open book shelf

Jill Valeri on Sep 23, 2014You can put piece of trim on either side of the doorway to create ledges that will support pieces of wood you cut to fit. The shelves rest on the trim (cleats) and you can nail them in place to be secure. Paint it all the same color.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Sep 24, 2014If you have a doorway that contains a door, the first thing you will have to do is box it out to get it ready to take on shelves. I have seen quarter round used to make shelf braces; cut to size, then glued and nailed in place. You can also buy small, 1" square pieces of wood for this. Be sure and put an finishing strip on the edges of both sides of the shelves to make them into sort of trays to keep things from sliding off as these will be rather narrow shelves. These thin finishing strips are available at the big box stores and are glued and tacked in place. Fill nail holes, sand slightly when finished and paint. You can probable google this.Helpful Reply
