Aspen Tree Lamp made from tree fallen across the road

We picked this tree up off the road a year ago, and just finished putting on all the lamp accessories. I am very pleased.

I have a wood burning stove and you've just given me the best idea of what to do with it.

Yes, we did that stove surround too. We clear coated all those river rocks with some sort of spray paint.... We did not use wall tile adhesive on the vertical, and we had problems with slipping, so use wall tile adhesive for the vertical rocks.

nice work on the lamps....did you drill all the way down through those or did you route out a channel in the back?

We routed a channel in the back. Would it be possible to drill all the way through?

I've seen some drilled up to 3 feet....but these were done on thicker stock. I have a 18" long drill bit that I've used on some projects...I suppose if you came in from each end it could work. The larger lamps I've seen made with aspen have been lathe turned and in those a bit is run down the center when it is still on the lathe.
