I use vinegar in the load of towels that smell a bit musty (husband threw wet in a heap) or just don't smell fresh - like dish rags. Use about 1/2 cup per large load. Thanks for the great tips!
My husband's shirts would still have an odor after I washed them, I started using a spray mixture of white vinegar and water under the arms, or if I am on the run I simply put approx 1/2 cup of white vinegar in the load along with the detergent, and we never have a problem any more, this is great, it is my understanding it kills bacteria. I LOVE it, low cost and no chemicals!! BTW my husband was very happy!!
My son and his friends burnt some popcorn making the whole house stink.. I put 1 cup of vinegar and filled a med. pot up with water and boiled it. It ate the smell right up.. I also keep a small jar of vinegar with holes poked in the top by the cat littler box, it helps with the oder that sometimes can get over powering.
Vinegar is a acid. A weak acid but a acid. It will etch certain finishes on floors. Especially wood ones. If it is a polyerthene finish it will slowly cloud the finish even a weak solution over time will cause damage. Certain finishes on floors vinegar will cause damage, the finish is what protects your floors. Always check the manufactors specs. Before you clean your floors. Any

All cleaners have their specs online. You can always google this if you want to make your own cleaners.
Cleaning natural is simple. But before you clean you should know how you are suppose to clean your products.
I have seen a lot of damage caused by other cleaners and the customer because they cleaned it wrong and it is a very expensive mistake.
Yes I am a Debbie Downer because I don't like people to clean their homes wrong because in the end it will cost you your hard earned money.
I have heard about the problem with cleaning hardwood floors with vinegar/water mixture. I also noticed that some of my clothing (spandex?? or some type of tight stretch athletic clothes) seemed to feel different after using vinegar in the wash. Don't think I will try it again. I have tried soaking/then washing athletic clothes in Wisk, and this is helping greatly with the odor problem! Don't know if this is a new product, but had never noticed it before. And they do have a 'sensitive skin' variety.
Dianne I believe that is more than possible. There are some washing machines that say vinegar will damage the rubberized parts. Spandex has elastic in it so it can cause damage it is also rubberized. I have yoga pants and have noticed some problems lately and I have never put two and two together. I founds the information about rubber and vinegar by googling it. : )
Hi, I've used a trick I learned in Senior Care Nursing. Addicted to it now. In every washing load add about 1/4 cup, even a little less, of ORIGINAL Pine Sol. It disinfects, can be used/mixed with bleach even. Only known cleaner that can do that. Original is the only flavor that disinfects. The smell leaves as soon as dry. Fantastic cleaner and deodorizer. Thanks for all these great tips everyone :)
Just a sour note...on vinegar. It is not a clean all! It has its place in cleaning. It will damage wood floors. You need to know what your floors are sealed with it will slowly eat through certain finishes and etch it. The finish is what protects your floors! Yes your grandma used it I know... But her wood floors were probably sealed with wax. And they waxed them several times a year. Certain tiles it will break down...think travertine tile, along with other tile. Before you clean

check any manufactures sight and see if this will damage your product. When I went back and googled about vinegar damaging clothes I found a manufactories sight that explained it did damage rubber which means it could also damage your washing machine, and I would swear by it using it as a rinse in my clothes until another poster said something about her workout clothes...in my case my yoga pants. But I clean for a living and check and recheck everything before I use it. I also check what is in cleaners before I use it. And break it down if I can into a natural cleaner. But I make sure most of the time. In this case my expensive yoga pants. Take your time and research and test it before you use it.
I can note with certainty that it cased my yoga pants to start fraying. ( the little rubbery parts to look funny and not shape right). So I now keeps certain items out of the wash when I am using vinegar. Yoga pants, stretchy workout shorts and panties. But I still use it not on spandex or anything with a lot of elastic. It hasn't bothered my socks through...
My mother swore by vinegar and baking soda for different cleaning projects. As far as hardwood floors was told use only cleaners for them. Spandex stuff always used woolite on gentle cycle line dry or lay flat..NEVER put in dryer, this goes for bra's and leggings too.
