$5 Flea Market Find Gets a Makeover
by
Connie Tobias Nichols
(IC: homeowner)
I found an old 1970's something cabinet at a flea market for $5, and after it sat in my garage for about a year I finally painted it this red color. I was never totally happy with it, but creativity has never been a big strength of mine. Finally, with inspiration from Hometalk and other similar websites, I threw caution to the wind and tried my hand at something new.
Drab, boring and blah!
I'd never sanded furniture before, but once I got started I loved seeing the natural wood come through.
I removed the backing of the cabinet, painted the shelves and stained the top and sides.
Then I covered the drawer fronts and backing with fabric using a glue gun, let everything dry for a couple of days and reassembled the pieces onto the cabinet.
It looks like an entirely new cabinet and I'm very happy with my first attempt and this type of makeover!
