Winterizing Roses

Should you get the rose plants 'ready' for winter?
If you live in a cold climate zone, the answer is yes!
Some roses are hardier than others, and will do o.k. without protection, but some of the more tender ones may be lost if you don't protect them.

Tender roses such as Hybrid teas are best grown in warmer climates, but even some of them need a little blanket of protection to survive the winter months.

Protection is more than just covering the roses themselves, it's about getting the rose beds ready for winter also.

Cleaning up the beds of any fallen leaves (especially those with fungus spores)will make sure you don't 'winter over' such diseases into next year.

There's not much to do to the old garden roses, other than be sure the bed is tidy, and enjoy the rose hips!
