Owning a Historic Home- Let the Adventure Begin!

We are off and running on a huge new adventure! I am excited and terrified… this stone house is named BannockBurn and was built over a two year period and finished in 1878. The granite was hauled out of the Maitland river and brought to the site to be cut and placed. The gardens stole my heart and we plan on expanding them further by adding a kitchen garden and fruit trees.
After 25 years of marriage, some amazing personal projects and many years of working together running our design business helping people make their homes everything they have been dreaming of we finally feel like we are going home… almost like everything we have ever done has led us to this point.
Kent and I know that owning a house like this is far more about stewardship than ownership. We fell in love with the house and seven acres of grounds long ago but when fate stepped in and we were looking for a new place to live we took a chance and asked the owner if she might consider selling… the whole story of serendipity is on the blog. I still can't believe this will be our home. I hope you follow along as we live, love and learn from this historic house.
Oh… and the best part… it needs a kitchen!!! :)

Gorgeous grounds, fabulous pad! I'm wondering about the name Bannockburn! Bannock is a native staple my grandparents were raised with ... and still used today. .. its a bread but flatter, baked on a cookie sheet. Mmm...very tasty with fresh homemade wild jam! (I'm originally from Northern Manitoba! Cree native mixed with German and Scottish! ) May I ask the location of this dreamland!? Breathtaking! Definitely a great place for many functions... fundraising. ..weddings... marketplace... etc.! Blessings on your new home!
