Staining and Etching Concrete Floors

We have a daylight basement that used to have light carpeting. It was a bear to keep clean, especially in the winter months with our Pacific NW rain and our muddy pawed Labradoodle. After our cat decided to mark her territory near the slider, that was the last straw. The carpet HAD to come up!
We looked into our non-carpet choices and decided that a stained concrete would be best.
It was more work than we anticipated, but we love it now and it's so easy to clean!

You can see the before and after in the above photo.
Not only did the carpet need to come up, but it needed painting! We painted a gray color called Coastal Grey.
This is the floor before we stained, but after we patched and repaired the cracks. A concrete grinder was rented and created SO MUCH concrete dusk that coated the entire home on the main floor.
Once the floor was prepped and ready, we used the Valspar products in the coffee color. They had 3 colors to choose from.
Because it's an acid, you should wear a mask, rubber boots and protective clothing. Even with all that, his cheeks still got a little "burned" that looked like a slight sunburn.
You can see it changing quickly. We stained the whole floor, then waited 24 hours before sealing. I thought the fumes would be strong, but they weren't at all.
As you can see, our girl loves the new floors.
I love the marbling and the repaired cracks just added more character.
