Longwood Gardens ~ A Walk in The Meadow
by

(IC: blogger)
Longwood Gardens opened the new Meadow Garden this year and it is putting on quite a show for fall! Planted both naturally and with the help of Longwood’s staff and volunteers, this meadow garden is a native garden at its very best.
Entering the garden, stroll over a footbridge spanning two ponds alive with turtles and frogs. The meadow lies before you on rolling hills. Birds, butterflies, beneficial insects and pollinators are in wonderland here. A rustic path, reminiscent of a worn farm wagon trail, winds through this lush meadow.

Native plants and wildflowers’ blooms attract wildlife and create a picturesque tableau against a clear blue autumn sky. Following the path, you encounter the cool shade of beechwoods by a trickling creek.
Gentle cutbacks in the trail lead up the hill to the Webb Farmhouse, a restored 300-year-old stone home. Now serving as an art gallery and educational center for the Meadow Garden, from the outside it is a step back in time.
Come along with me on the wagon trail through the meadow. It was a wonderful nature walk that I will look forward to taking every season of the year.

Douglas Hunt on Oct 08, 2014Now that definitely makes me want to make return visit, Barb, and it surely proves that if you plant the right things, you can quickly have a garden teeming with life.

Barb Rosen on Oct 08, 2014@Douglas Hunt ~ what's wonderful is that they just let a great deal of the meadow grow naturally and augmented and edited. It truly is a native wildflower meadow!
