I currently have old vertical blinds hanging in my kitchen sliding doors and covering the windows. What do you suggest to replace and be more trendy?

Natural fiber blinds like bamboo are really popular right now and can be a fairly budget friendly option. They have been available for windows for years but I just got a catalog from Country Curtains the other day showing bamboo panels for French doors and I don't see why they wouldn't work for sliding doors too. If the panels are not wide enough, I would think it would be easy to velcro the edges of the panels together to get the width you need. http://www.countrycurtains.com/product/010150685+banded+bamboo+panel.do?sortby=ourPicks&refType= If you need privacy, more light control or insulation than they provide, they also sell an optional blackout liner for them. I also noticed Country Curtains is running a sale through the end of October--15% off your entire order...or with some research, you might be able to find something similar at another retailer for less.

Find any of these large, dust-trapping coverings a pain. Just take them down. You could place a frondy type plant on the side that isn't used as much to soften the lines. There are also films available that allow you to see out, but nobody can see in. Some prevent heat transfer from in to out and vice versa, and prevent fading, as well.
