Having problems with power arching

Becky
by Becky
Put in a whole house surge protector. Several new outlets and switches, a new ground to earth wire. Still have power arching through floor switches plugs. Had several electricians come out they all said the box was ok. Also had power company check out the outside power box they said everthing reads ok. I don't know what else to do. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • @Becky Can you describe a bit more about this arcing? What exactly is happening? Are you blowing bulbs and electronic connections? Arching is normally caused by voltage spikes in the system. Did any of the electrical contractors suggest a voltage monitor on the panel? While the power company may check the current voltage, they have no way to know if a spike occurs and most of them do not want to omit if there is an issue for fear of liability. How often does this occur? Is it frequent, or just every once and a while. How do you know that it is arching? @

Well its shocking everyone as your walking across floor or it comes through furniture like sitting on bed. Outlets & switches & breakers show hot. You literally can feel it surging underneath your feet as it jumps from one room to another.

Most of the time it dosnt even flip the breaker but last night one of the breakers blew and front of the switch was damaged
  • Sounds as though your on a slab? This tells me that they did not ground the rebar in the cement floor when they constructed the home. The metal rebar should have been grounded. What is puzzling is how. You can touch a hot wire and not get shocked. If that was the case birds would be dropping off power lines all the time. How does the power enter into the home? overhead or underground? How often does this occur? Is there any pattern to this? What type of floors do you have? Wood, Carpet, Tile? Is one area worse then another? I would still have a voltage monitor installed on the panel. This will record issues with voltage. Have you tried using a EMF meter? These devices measure magnetic waves caused by electrical currents. If there is a power flowing through the slab, a EMF meter should be able to detect it. What type of soil is the house built on? Has it been wet?
