For most of the year, Vivian, there is little option but hand removal of the bags. When the insects are young, which could be now depending on where in the country you are, you might be able to use an insecticide. You'll find recommendations in this article from the University of Illinois Extension service: http://web.extension.illinois.edu/cfiv/homeowners/030628.html Keep in mind that you need to thoroughly cover the trees. I'm not sure to whom the rest of your questions were directed.

Douglas is correct...hand picking is the best bet now. My Mother's family came from Smithville TN....but they were Phillips, not Reeves

Yep, hand pick. My neighbors had a HUGE problem with bag worms. Unfortunately, even this didn't work for them. After several years of infestation the only option was to cut down the poor tree and the ones on the sides of it as well. There was just so much damage that the poor things were nearly dead. Hopefully you can get yours taken care of before it gets to that point
