Colors for a white wall, brown carpet apartment?

Okay, so I've moved into an apartment recently where I'm not allowed to paint the walls. The walls are a plain white and my carpet is a really ugly brown. My couch is a similar brown, and my recliner is a nice beige color. I'm pretty new to home design, so I'm wondering what sort of color schemes would work well for my new home (especially without painting!!)
Any idea are appreciated. :)

Hey there! A picture would really help to get a better idea of the shades that you are currently working with. You can upload a picture by clicking the upper-right drop arrow and selecting "Edit." Then click the blue Photo button to upload your pic. Let me know if you need help!:)

Sounds like all you have is varying shades of brown.... do you have a piece of artwork or a rug with lots of color to work from.... I would suggest finding something for inspiration and building from it. I'm thinking a green or blue would work well with browns and use them to punch things up.... throw pillows, window treatments, accents.... what about an art or photo gallery wall....

Also what's your budget? You can put a little aside and get a great room size rug from discount stores like Home Goods you can get them for $200.00 . Brown is a neutral,so pick your favorite color and have fun! For the walls (again maybe save some$)they sell non permanent wall paper ,like decals. target has a few gorgeous patterns. Or, there is a DIY project using fabric and starch you can look that up for the instructions . It looks super easy first heard about it on the Nate Burkus show. There many solutions , my daughter got her first apartment and she wanted a Moroccan theme she purchased a light woven fabric very Boho and just tacked it to the wall behind her bed!

scatter cushions are good for bursts of colour, you could throw caution away and go with some patch work fabrics and then co-ordinate with the colours in the cushions. As these are small investments you can change them as your tastes change. Also having some standing shelves with some small pieces of art on them brings in splashes of colour. It can be fun when you are forced to be creative. good luck.

Need colour. Don't know what your budget is but keep your eyes open to what people put out as trash. (I furnished and accessorized an apt. with what I found at curbside or give-away days or cheap at the Thrift Stores - area rugs, fireplace mantle with working electric insert, sofa, dressers, etc..) Am a great believer in big plants, real or artificial, to fill corners and soften lines. Toss cushions/throws are good to add colour. Visit a building site and see if they have a good sized scrap piece of plywood or such. Then create your own modern art piece. Look for unlikely objects that you can spray, if need be, for repurposing. Soon the white walls will be broken up and won't be such a bug bear.

Thank you for all the suggestions! Sadly, I am unable to upload any photos for the time being, I don't have a reliable camera at the moment. I will probably look into different shades of blue then. I know its an easy color to work with, and even though I don't have a lot of color right now, blue would be an easier color to find in thrift stores I think. Again, thank you for the help everyone :)
