What Do You Think?

I may be the worst home decorator ever so I frequently turn to friends and family for their opinion about the colors I've chosen. I painted our front door a vibrant red but am not so sure it's a good pick. I'm about to paint the back door, either the same color or another altogether, depending on what is decided. Anyone have any thoughts? Like the red or is it over the top?

Does the red go with the faux grey stone panel and white siding?

Put you some containers and plant some flowers.. Shutters would be nice. You can buy the plastic ones at Lowe's or Home Depot.. Or have someone cut you out some interesting shaped ones and you paint them black . You have a nice house. I like the brick or whatever the bottom is.

I like the red, I would add some red flowers in pots around the steps and some taller plants in the garden and some shutters to add interest.

Love the suggestions above, so excuse the rudimentary drawing, but this is a sketch of what those ideas would look like put into a visual. Just like decorating an interior, spread the same color around and it will tie everything together! Love the door and think it's a great start!

Thanks, Becky. I draw a good game, but I really need to do this with my own house...My door has been primed, but unpainted for 3 years now, to the point that the primer is cracking...LOL

Why is it sometimes easier to solve someone else's problems than to know how to handle your own? Love the drawing, Leslie D.

Nice Drawing Leslie! The Black Shutters and Window Boxes really do a great job of dressing things up, but I still think I'd use Crepe Myrles at the two corners of the house...LOL Love the Pots on the porch....

I couldn't draw crepe myrtles well enough to try. Drawing with a mouse has its limitations in MS paint...LOL

Ellen H., it's not solving the problems that's the issue; it's following through on the solutions that is the problem...................takes a lot of time to follow through on the solutions.

Takes lots of money, too...and I keep spending all of mine on cool mid-century furniture that I find at auction....LOL

Can you paint the grey stone first? So maybe it will blend with the door?

I just use the Microsoft Paint Program (if you have a Microsoft product, it should be on your computer). Just open the picture of your room/house in that program, and it has everything you need for basic drawing, using your mouse. Just play around in it, it's easy to learn. You can also download Google Sketch-Up for free, but it's more time-consuming, and a little more difficult to learn.

Racheal, I saw the other post about doing your own siding and I was actually embarassed that I offered you advice. Anyone who will climb a ladder that tall to do siding on your own should be advising me, not the other way around. You're doing great on your own. And when I saw the pictures on your blog of your farm with the red barn in the background, the red door made perfect sense.

Ellen H--I really appreciated your advice and I asked for it! It's one thing to do the construction work, it's another to design and decorate it. I am so grateful for everyone's input and am sure to ask again what people think!

I love the red door! I love a bold color on a focal point with more neutral shades, unlike some who go over the top and paint the whole house some glaring color...nice job.
