Can anyone tell me what this is? I purchased it at a thrift store.

Shirley on Oct 11, 2014I am guessing that you put A tea light in the middle and it flickers of the glass to make different colors maybe. Or A ring holder,, but it looks like your fingers would have to be pretty big. lolHelpful Reply

Nola Baker-Ramirez on Oct 11, 2014Thanks for your answers so far. It's not a ring holder unless it's for a really really large person. It's made of glass and not crystal, so it won't give out colors. However, there is an indented circle in the middle for a tealight. The tops of the pegs are etched as if to hold something with no slippage.Helpful Reply

AvonelleRed on Oct 11, 2014My guess is a fondue base. You'd put your heating can in the indentation and set your pot on top. Or maybe a teapot warmer or something along those lines. Could have been homemade. I've seen similar fondue bases, but on those, the glass "fingers" were not flat on top, and there were less of them. They angled in towards the center to hold the pot exactly in place.Helpful Reply

TwilaB on Oct 12, 2014Possibly a shot glass holder; the center would hold the liquor bottle. I love to find oddities like this!Helpful Reply

MagnoliaMama on Oct 12, 2014Is it old? I can't tell from the photo. If it is, then it might be an old electrical insulator that had wires wrapped around the extensions of glass (which won't conduct electricity). Something else (some sort of pole?) might have butted up to the indented section. Picture it upside down on a pole with the extensions pointing down and wires coming from every direction but coming together at the pole, and you'll get the idea. Glass insulators were widely used in the early days of electricity.Helpful Reply

Nola Baker-Ramirez on Jan 04, 2015It can stand on it's glass legs. There is a circle in the middle. If you look closely you can see it. Perfect size for a tea candle.Helpful Reply

Nola Baker-Ramirez on Jan 04, 2015@Betty, I finally packed it away...somewhere..? LoL! But you're right, I should have posted pics that displayed it both ways.. I think seeing the indentation for the tealight candle convinced me that it went 'legs up'. I could be wrong...it certainly wouldn't be the first time!! Thank you so much for your reply and observations!!!Helpful Reply
