This was a labor of love repurposing two large slabs of slate nearly 2 inches thick. Both have been cut at compound 10 degree miters (by hand) joined with epoxy where the smaller one passes trough at double miter of 10 degrees through the larger piece. The larger piece is about 7 foot long anchored in the ground with a concrete pour (10 bags) with rebar drilled through the slate for added stability (below grade). We estimate that the entire mailbox weighs in at about 1800 pounds with base...
